GUWAHATI: The Guwahati international airport is the largest airport in the Northeastern part of the country and serves as the gateway to all the popular tourist as well as business destinations of the region. And with the growth of the tourist numbers in the northeastern states, so has the footfall at the Guwahati Airport.

The Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport of Guwahati recorded a footfall of nearly 4 lakh passengers in February 2023, which is a sharp increase from the corresponding month of last year.

The authorities of the Guwahati international airport mentioned that the airport had received a total of 15066 people in the month of February on a single day, which is the highest for the airport.

The total number of passengers in the month of February 2023 was 20% higher compared to the same in February 2022. The airport has also seen a 24% increase in air traffic movement in the same duration of time.

Nearly 190000 out of the approximately 400000 passengers used the departure facility, while the rest of them arrived in the city. The top three destinations connecting Guwahati airport are Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru and it is also connected to the two international destinations of Singapore and Paro.

The airport also witnessed about 1800 flights from various destinations in the month of February 2023 which is a massive increase compared to the number in the same month one year ago.

The Guwahati airport was also in the news recently for setting up green walls on both sides of its main entry road. It was an attempt to give the airport a green look as well as to reduce the dust and pollution in the area. It will also aimed at creating a good location to take selfies for all the tourists coming to the region.
